| | Number of years playing records:
| Seven, getting booked to play and sometimes paid.
Fourteen, if you count doing live shows, and releasing singles (As D.D.T., Zia, and Bionic, plus brief appearances with electronica and funk
bands) as a percussionist and producer before becoming a DJ.
Twenty, if you count my first records with babysitting money, and playing them on
a 12"x12" cube hifi that included a tape deck and AM/FM with detachable speakers.
Anecdote:
I remember when CD's were introduced at the record store I shopped at. The cost was nearly double that of an LP.
They had 3 titles. Micheal Jackson "Thriller", Madonna, "Like a Virgin", and
Prince "Purple Rain" Otherwise I could order any record still available if it wasn't in stock.
I will never forget the sandwich board in front of the record shop around 1985
Why buy the new CD albums instead of LP's?
1. They will never skip or scratch.
2. The sound quality is crystal clear.
3. The album is all on one side.
4. You can fast forward to any song you like in seconds---
5. and songs always start at the beginning.
6. They never wear out, sounds new every time you play it.
7. They survive much longer, at least 7 years or more.
8. You can get all of your favorite albums on CD.
I tried CD's ten years later and none of them have made it to today, but my records did. I gave them up until recently.
| | Favorite labels:
| Now? Uhhh... I don't remember anything nowadays....lots of labels have a one-off that I
love....labels that I play over and over are Vinyl Addiction Recordings,
Saw Recordings, Tango, Nightshift, Sondos, Kismet, Plastica, Yoshitoshi,
NRK, Hooj. The artists/producers I usually pick up on vinyl subconciously
are Phil Keiran, Timo Mass, Tony Thomas, Kelis, Chris Lum, Eddie Amador,
Alexi Delano, Meat Katie, etc, who appear on lots of different labels. I
like other genres of music that I don't play and if I could afford it I
would collect more vinyl, but use CD's, MP3's, and Music Choice, as a
cheaper listening tool to preview all styles of electronic or original
music.
| | favorite drink:
| Irish or English Hard Apple Cider, and single malt Scotch, Vodka based cocktails.
Don't drink beer, don't 420 even if my appearance fits the part.
| | favorite food:
| Japanese, Indian, Thai, French, Irish, Italian, Etheopian, Mexican (In that order)
I cook almost every meal I eat, I can cook healthier, cheaper, faster, and
tastier than a lot of places around town. I'll eat at a restauraunt if
they take their time and don't overcharge, and on special occasions.
Seafood of any kind, and an authentic or friend-made meal is an exception
to any rule. Pizza, chicken wings, and bacon, will be prescribed only if
an extreme hangover is taking place.
| | first rock concert:
| Three Dog Night. 1979. Free Concert. 10 years old. I was in Canada with my Mom,
and younger Brother and Sister. The band played their first sound, "booowwwwwrrrrrrr
rurrr ruurruh rooooowwwwowww oowww owww"...... bass guitar, played through
a loud soundsystem. I was so overwhelmed from the intensity and pleasure
of the sound, I fanatically broke away from my family who was settled
in the back, and ran with my arms flailing in the air to be in front of
the stage, expecting to be taken to the next level amongst all the cute
teenagers and the exhilerating sound. The sound soon gelled into painful
rock songs with country music-style vocals. Getting a closer look at the
bandmembers, they looked like they needed a permanent rest. This was the
first time in my life that I had lost the vibe. I remember thinking....I
think....I....don't like this kind of rock, along with many other kinds of
rock I've heard. I was very disappointed and remember that whole bummed
out feeling when we all left....
